Hand-drawn prints
Each print begins in our sketchbook: the women of the Sigiriya frescoes, waterlilies, the lake at dusk. The drawing becomes the textile.
Batik
Sri Lankan batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique with roots on the island going back to the 18th century. Artisans sketch the design onto the fabric, apply hot wax with a tool called a tjanting, then dye the cloth, repeating the process layer by layer until the pattern appears. Our Perennial collection is made this way.
Embroidery
Embroidery done by hand adds texture and detail, like the waterlily on the cuffs of the Manel Blossom suit.
